A review of phenolic antioxidants isolated from endophytic fungi
Authors
Abstract:
Oxidative stress caused by overproduction of free radicals or oxygenated radical species plays a major role in causing many diseases. The findings suggest the use of antioxidants as compounds to control the release of these radicals or directly prevent their formation. Therefore, antioxidants can be used as drugs to reduce or prevent oxidative stress. Herbal medicines are the basis of modern pharmacy and many antioxidant compounds are derived from plant extracts. Due to the endangerment of medicinal plants, the industrial production of many plant antioxidants is not possible. As a result, introducing endophytic fungi as a new source of natural antioxidant compounds could be a new way to access and produce of natural antioxidants in the food and pharmaceutical industries. In this review, the potential of endophytic fungi to produce phenolic compounds with antioxidant activities was investigated. Most endophytic fungi with antioxidant properties belong to the genera Fusarium and Aspergillus. We hope this review provides useful information for readers to understand the potential of endophytic fungi in the production of new antioxidants, and to encourage scientists to undertake projects that may lead to the development of novel natural antioxidant drugs.

Diversity of Endophytic Fungi Isolated from Korean Ginseng Leaves
We investigated the diversity of the foliar endophytes of Korean ginseng. Endophytic fungi were isolated from healthy leaves of mountain-cultivated ginseng (MCG) and field-cultivated ginseng (FCG) at 4 sites in Chungbuk Province. A total of 24 species of fungal endophytes were identified using molecular approaches. Additionally, the diversity of these endophytic fungi was compared between MCG a...
full textAntimicrobial activities of endophytic fungi isolated from Ophiopogon japonicus (Liliaceae)
BACKGROUND Drug resistance in bacteria has become a global concern and the search for new antibacterial agents is urgent and ongoing. Endophytes provide an abundant reservoir of bioactive metabolites for medicinal exploitation, and an increasing number of novel compounds are being isolated from endophytic fungi. Ophiopogon japonicus, containing compounds with antibacterial activity, is a tradit...

The aim of the present study was to isolate, identify and observe antibacterial activity of the endophytic fungi against some pathogenic bacteria as well as to optimize various parameters for maximum production of antibacterial bioactive compounds. Endophytic fungi were isolated from Menthe viridis collected from Khamariya, Jabalpur M.P. (India). Screening of endophytic fungi for in-vitro antib...

O. fragrans has slightly less antioxidative activity than green tea. Five phenolic compounds, tyrosyl acetate (1), (+)-phillygenin (2), (8E)-ligustroside (3), rutin (4), and verbascoside (5), were isolated from the CHCl3 sub-extract of O. fragrans. The structures were elucidated by interpreting their spectral data. Evaluation of the antioxidative property of the isolated (+)-phillygenin (2), ru...
full textNew records of endophytic fungi isolated from oak trees in Kurdistan province (Iran)
Oak is the most important forest tree in Kurdistan province (Iran). Fungi are associated with oak trees as parasite, saprophyte and endophyte. The endophytic fungi are known components of biodiversity and have beneficial effects on host plants. During 2012-13 in a survey on endophytic fungi of oak trees in forest regions of Kurdistan province asymptomatic samples were collected from healthy twi...
